But it is usually women who face this. They don’t actually care about women or minority rights. Only their own.

The articles about Annie on NYP are truly awful. I can’t imagine having that garbage show up every time someone googles your name. That in itself would give anyone PTSD :(
I know a guy, a police officer. He dated a fellow officer for a few years. When they broke up in a messy fashion he posted multiple pictures of her on-line. He faced no sanction, but within a year she was essentially forced to quit. He’s still on the job. I’ve heard he considers it vindication.
Your daily reminder that the United States does NOT have a justice system. We have a legal system. And it is callous as fuck. It continues to trample on the dignity of people everywhere. Especially women and minorities.
If an abusive ex posted their partner’s banking info online instead of their body, there’s no question everyone would see it as a serious crime and the ex would be in jail forever. You would think all these libertarians who hold property rights sacrosanct understand that nothing is more your private property than your…
He doesn’t have to. He has the right to remain silent, which includes giving the police any information against himself. The warrant says they can search his phone, but they can’t compel him to give them his passcode. They would have to get in some other way.
It’s not stated in the article, but they probably want into the phone to get information about his associates, dealer etc. Six months in jail or keep your “friends” safe and not have drug dealers want to kill you. hmm.
Another example of how ass backwards
FloridaThe USA is.
I would say that he doesn’t have to unlock the phone and the Supreme Court would back that up, but you can’t count on the Supreme Court to do the right thing anymore. Fuck. This country is screwed.
It always reminds me of that bit at the beginning of The Social Network where Zuckerberg’s girlfriend is breaking up with him, and she says something like “You’re going to go through life thinking that girls don’t like you because you’re a nerd, and I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that it won’t be the…
And just to be clear...they repulse us because they hate women.
Dear MRA chucklefucks: The reason these establishments have to offer discounts and other incentives for women to show up, is to compensate them in some small way for the indignities they will inevitably suffer from the likes of you.
Wait - hold the phone.
Without question.
In the countless articles about this, not one person has answered this fucking question.
This whole thing was predicated on strictly following the law, so clearly what must happen is that Jeff Bo, Nielsen and the President* should be sent to jail for contempt until they comply with the order. I mean, they deserve it for a ton of other stuff, too, but it’s only fair.
The answer is it doesn’t matter. Trump has full control of all three branches of government and can (and will, and does) do whatever he pleases. Our system of checks and balances is entirely non-functional. We are living in an authoritarian regime that simply hasn’t shed its veneer of republican (little “r”)…
Yeah I was gonna ask the same thing. Essentially someone is in contempt of court. Who gets punished and what is that punishment?
This was the question I posed down thread: what were the consequences? Were they going to be fined? Was anyone going to be fired? Were they obligated to pay any of these families reparation settlements?
So, serious question since I’m totally ignorant on the legal repercussions of this: does the administration face any sort of penalty for this? Unless there’s a fine or something involved I can’t see why they would have been compelled to meet this deadline in the first place.
