Accel runs are the sketchiest thing FSAE cars do. The best drivers don’t do them, generally and with the cars power and weight cold tires they are hairy!

IIRC JJ did a fair bit of dirt/desert racing in this “youth.” That’s good experience to have for incidents like this!
