It’s not fake shutter sound. Most photojournalists are shooting on DSLR cameras which have shutters that make the click sound you’re hearing.

It’s also hilarious to watch people react to a bike bell. The idea is simple, but somehow people take a few seconds to figure out what’s going on.

Yep, I’ve never bike commuted in a large metro city. I’ve ridden a bit in Minneapolis where they have the greenway which is just as you described, a bike freeway. So it’s heavily dependent on the bike infrastructure. It’s possible that it could be one hour but it could also be two hours.

My guess is about an hour each way. It’s pretty easy to do 15mph on a bike if the path is rather direct, without many stops.

Are you using a proper telescope with motorized tracker and adapter for your DSLR or something like the Vixen Polarie Star Tracker? The Vixen has been in my Amazon cart for 6 months now and I just can’t pull the trigger yet. I’d really like to build a slider rig for timelapses before I get into deep space stuff.

And unfortunitely I have a Hero 3+ Black, so no GoPro shooting for me. There’s a lot of different styles of night shooting. I think we’ll be occupied for years.

Watch out, night photography is addicting. I really fell in love with it this summer and was lucky enough to catch the northern lights a few times. Now I’m checking the solar weather daily, planning around new moons, and freezing my bum off standing outside in the middle of the night.
