Probably, he was opposed to electric because of the weight it adds but now that he found a way to compensate for said weight by removing the transmission and going direct drive. By offsetting the negative effects of a hybrid system its no longer really a "hybrid system" to him.

Why shouldn't a luxury GT weight 4000 lbs? There are many great luxury gt's that weight that amount from the Aston Martin Vanquish to the Ferrari FF.

If this thing keeps with Honda's reliability then it could carve out a decent portion of this segment for itself. Keeping it FWD will probably allow for it to undercut the competition while probably keeping it more reliable and cheaper to maintain.
