DO NOT ask "Why don't you...?". "Why don't" questions are not questions, they are passive aggression. The question doesn't ask for help, it asks for your reason for NOT helping. It's really saying "tell me why you AREN'T helping me (or help me)". Pay attention to commercials. They use this trick all the time.

Similar advice applies when trying to convey a message (rather than asking for help) to superiors at your job. State your message in no more than five sentences.
