I wouldn’t touch a 500 (Abarth or not) with a 10 foot pole and I saw that as a guy who owns a 12 yrs old Mini.

me neither. you could insult any of the car brands I currently own or have owned in the past, I wouldn’t care much.
MOPAR OR NO CAR
I wouldn’t qualify Subaru as reliable.
if you’re broke and can’t afford maintenance, buy a mid-90s Honda, not a new Chrysler. I own a ‘95 Accord, perfect for the people you refer as scraping by.
blown engine on Dodge Aries after 1 year (bought new). since then, my experience with low mileage rentals (Dodge Caliber, Nitro, Chrysler Sebring, 200, Jeep Compass...) has confirmed the mediocrity of FCA products. Both GM and Ford have learned from their mistake and improve over years, not FCA.
Who remembers Doug Demuro Jalopnik post about flipping a rare Mercedes-Benz 300E (jointly made with Porsche) that he bought from a dealership that got it as a trade-in for a Fiat?
The R56 with it’s dreaded N14 engine sealed Mini’s bad reputation for reliability. I wouldn’t paint the R53 (or R50) with the same brush.
if you find one (JCW) good, if not, don’t worry.
I agree 100% with you.
I am not sure how the 2 could be confused, regardless of language spoken.
what happened to the Mini?
