Expert 1 and 2 have good recommendations. I would stay away from recommendation 3 and 4, you are asking for trouble with these two. I would go further than Expert 1 and recommend an older 3-series wagon, the E91. The downside is that the E91 is rather small (for a family) and has terrible rear visibility, almost…

wrong, be more aggressive than the schedule when it comes to maintenance (i.e. more than prescribed). Do you really want to follow those 10,000 miles oil change intervals? Also preventive maintenance rather than just maintenance is key.

I agree, I cringed when I saw that. All the A4 Avant owners I know had their fair share of problems, one of the best looking wagon out there, you don’t want to own one. I’m currently looking for a more sensible E91.
