This was probably 90% of it. The other 10% being an emo kid who grew up to work at Ford and just wanted a Mustang with thick black eyeliner and the name “Dark Horse”.

There’s got to be a way to sue her and remove her from office. And I don’t mean waiting for the next election and electing someone else.

It’s time for Congress to act.

Why would I want to pay for you to train when I can just get someone who’s already trained and has some experience...?

Kalamazoo is banking on the good nature of humans in general.

Take him out back, wiggle the rabbit ears, clonk him on the head a few times, and Mitch is back! See everyone? The gerontocracy works just fine.

No, ban cars instead.  We are talking about the midwest, those folks could use the exercise.

An aide told NBC News that McConnell, who is 81 years old, “felt lightheaded and stepped away for a moment.”

Given how not freaked out his staff and colleagues were, wouldn’t be surprised if this is not a first/one-off occurrence — just the first one captured on camera.

UGH. One of the communities near me did a similar thing where they had sidewalks that would alternate between bike path + curb and then 50 foot section of sidewalk on both sides of the road to “calm traffic.” The sidewalk would be in the same place as the bike path was for the last couple hundred yards. And since, as

God almighty is it too much to ask that some intern remember to leave him on the charger overnight when he has a program to run the next morning?

And part of the jam up is cultural, not money.

You forgot another major point... the market downturns wrecked those on 401ks to the point that some were not able to retire at 65 and end up sticking around longer than they should. A statement I heard years ago was that no one had yet retired on a 401k so it is unclear if they are viable under normal conditions.

They did that for a reason. I was in high school during the 80s. We had auto shop, auto body shop, machine shop classes and the like. An entire pathway to becoming an ASE certified mechanic soon after graduation.

Don’t forget that schools also dropped all the “shops”. No more wood shop, machine shop etc.. We are pushing more and more people to go to college instead of trade schools.

Well put - they don’t want to pay for training, nor pay a living wage. Then they complain about a talent shortage and being chronically understaffed. Give me a break. Anyone paying even remote attention could see this coming 5-10 years ago. It’s only a matter of time before people start retiring and then they’re

I agree with all this, but would take it one step further that money is only half the problem. The over half is that companies have tried to economize these jobs to a point that you could quite frankly not pay someone enough to do them. With pilots, the post-Covid scheduling structure forced a lot of people to either

It isn’t just the airline industry. It’s a ton of industries. And it’s 100% the companies fault for being short sighted dumbasses.

Just start paying people to train in these roles. It would take a very few years indeed. Part of the problem is demanding that people self fund their training in various ways, including via military service, and that necessarily limits the talent pool right from the very start. Pay people a living wage while they
