I vaguely remember Konami made a 2D fighting game for the NES with a bunch of their characters. It had characters from Castlevania plus a whole lot of other ones from Japanese-only games.

My thoughts exactly. While the whole "kill with style" thing got old for me rather quickly, it's not a terrible game. The dialog was "refreshing" and I'm sure it wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Graphics looked decent to me, but I'm not obsessed with ultra high graphics settings.
