I really don’t get what it is about them. There’s plenty of terrifying, better-looking models in games these days, but these things just tug at some cord that really bugs me.

true, it could just be a matter of sales— though he certainly doesn't have to worry about that— but when you've been around as long as he has, relationships are easier to manage and important
