It’s long past time for some diversity on our currency, but after we get a solid round of that, I wish for the next round of designs to exclude people altogether. Every candidate will be found to be controversial somehow. Many of the founders were slaveholders, most historical figures were racists, and recent figures

This isn’t in question.  He has said that the earliest humans coexisted with tyrannosaurs.  He is an extremely stupid person.

So now y’all are just citing each other as proofs of evidence. Kristen’s results were not “botched.” You’ve had plenty of time to consider what she wrote, and your editors should’ve altered the piece by now. She botched her blog post. Her blog is not proof of wrongdoing by the company. That one blog post (even if it

That’s not cynicism. That’s reality. They could’ve done this under Obama, and dozens of them said it was the wrong move for the country.  These people are bigots who know how to sell a story to get donations and votes.  They are not allies.

They leave Washington to avoid voting so they don’t have to defend their votes. That’s a thing.

Democrats in the House were able to enthusiastically vote for it precisely because they know it will fail.  When Democrats controlled Congress and the White House, they (including Pelosi) said that the law would be wrong for the country.  Fuck all them and their theater.

How bizarre.  These regulations are already required of the purchasers, but not the suppliers?  What Republican nonsense is that?  Why didn’t OSHA fine them for the ridiculous “precaution” infraction?

Or maybe 5-year olds shouldn’t have celebrity idols.  Does she know what a stegosaurus is?  Does she collect seashells or rocks?  Does she make up choreography for traditional songs that never get played on the radio?  I guess what I’m saying is, I sort of hope I’m dead before your granddaughter and her friends are

Even easier than cooking: eating apples, carrots, string beans etc.

The field portion can be done by you or anyone. Check out the websites eBird and iNaturalist (and BugGuide for arthropods). Anyone can upload a photo, and then you’ll get a notification when more knowledgeable people identify the thing you saw. It’s one way to learn new species, and it can become a scavenger hunt like

No, invasive does not just mean non-native, and that’s not a commonly held position.  The species must hold some evolutionary advantage (disease resistance, high fecundity, etc.) and must have a negative impact on native ecosystems.  There’s much more to it than just foreignness.

That was probably an error by Gawker. Persistence is not the same thing as invasiveness. As he mentions at the end, no one has determined whether these parrot populations are detrimental to wild birds.

Oh, for sure. I remember the debacle of 2000. Around that time, I was a librarian, and in charge of multiple newspaper subscriptions. Everyone was covering Florida. It was well-documented that Florida changed nothing (except the “chad” style paper ballot) by 2002 and 2004. They didn’t bother. The government moves

By trying to make this issue sound simple, you’re making yourself sound simple.

You could also take this back an additional 50+ years. The formation of Israel began in the 1800s, as other empires were disintegrating and Jews migrated to Palestine. She’s conveniently focusing on one small window of history - immediately after the Holocaust - to say that people were kind to Jews. She’s ignoring

You think that teaching STEM means reducing reading, analysis, and critical thinking?  I can’t imagine what your own courseload was like that makes you think that.  STEM is not the “chief” reason for these problems.  You’re living in your own world outside reality.

“I accept full responsibility.”

This discussion reminds me of the people clamoring for self-driving car services.  That’s essentially what trains are!  We’ve had them for 200 years!  Instead of investing in logical things that already exist, we’re pumping money into private companies to do illogical things.  People whine that Amtrak isn’t profitable

These op-eds are infuriating. I don’t think a single one should be published. Companies are welcome to send some thoughts to the newspaper, but then journalists should fact-check everything and only repeat snippets. Treat it like an interview, where only a few quotations get pulled into the final piece.
