Trump got to be president because people and news outlets gave him the time of day and humored him into listening to his opinions, even when the said opinions were blatantly racist, sexist and homophobic. Opinions are not all equal and some stuff needs to be shut down fast.

They did though, they gave him yet another platform. They didn’t have to put the president on the cover, and could’ve made the explicit decision to shun him. There must be at least one other American in a country of millions that could’ve possibly graced the cover, but no, they gave it to him.

Time’s person of the Year is not an award, but when you humor an idiot and give him platforms to spew his hate, you do contribute to the normalization of his behavior, I believe.
