I use TunnelBear, primarily for my phone. Sure, it’s advertised up the wazoo, but it works and has a fair selection of countries. Can be a little slow, but compared to my office’s roll your own VPN, it is fast enough.

I just looked up my undergraduate thesis on Google Scholar and got a pleasant surprise. Clicking "site" gave me examples of how to site my thesis in MLA, Chicago, and APA format. APA and Chicago said my thesis was a PhD/doctoral dissertation. MLA just said "Diss." which is the same thing. Upgrade!

VOTE: Dreamhost Dreamobjects

I voted for Winamp with some trepidation. As a desktop media player I absolutely love it, and on first blush it appeared to be a terrific addition to my Android. However, I have never been happy with how it interacts with my phone. Among other things, it doesn't seem to like syncing playlist.

You probably should be watering your tree more than every couple days. Crawling under the tree is a twice-daily yuletide tradition.

Well, unfortunately, I know from experience that drinking before CPAPing defeats the purpose of the CPAP.

I've been loving Google Music, especially its integration with my android phone, but I've discovered that everything in my music folder didn't upload. What I need is a utility that will show me every file in a folder that doesn't exist on Google Music; I don't need to download stuff because I'm always going to keep a

I'd like to just use exclusion, but ants come in through the wiring. Can't very well caulk up all of my outlets.

We have a near constant ant problem in my neighborhood. I keep them out of the house using a combination of cornmeal in the yard and borax (Terro) where they are getting in the house, fairly successfully. May have to try some DE as well. My problem is they generally stay out of the house when it is warm, but come in

I don't think its entirely fair to paint this as "cable versus everybody else." Fact is, I've only ever had one plumber make a time-certain appointment with me (unless it was an all-day job). Everyone else seems to be in love with the four-hour window. My HVAC guy uses a five-hour window. I think Surewest had a

Vote: Kindle. B&W E-ink is all I need for reading. I get my color fix sitting at the computer.

Guess I'm in the minority. Although I'm unhappy, I'll stick with Mozy and will use the multi-computer plan. Partially, its worth it to me not to have to re-upload everything on my crap DSL.

@FrankenPC: The Billy bookcases are in general pretty sturdy. Unlike the person in the picture above, ours are fully loaded with actual paper books (gasp) and they've held up quite well. We had flimsier ones from Dania (now Scandinavian Designs, I think) that also held up well but weren't big enough. I'd never

VOTE: Internet Public Library's "Ask an ipl2 Librarian."

@james-42: Gorgeous. But nary a helmet in sight.

Here's a thought. Skip the pro. Let you kids help you do it. They'll remember it a heckuva lot more than any "professional" tree decorator.

This comes just in the nick of time. My wife and I are trying to find a way to make sure that any music we like in common we can have on each of our laptops. (I'm getting tired of having to have a file server in my office, even if it does make me look like a cool Linux dude.)

@tuxus: I tried to do this, but then I would always find that I'd left any of the sundry cards I'd needed (Costco, Library, REI, etc.) at home.

Advertising doesn't bother me nearly as much as having to watch a program on someone else's schedule does. I bought a Roku in part anticipating this move, but fell in love with it even without Hulu. We've already ditched our cable even as we purchased our first HDTV. I'll miss the sports but not the mindless channel
