Whatever future discoveries come in the analytics world for sports, they matter less and less. But the supply of analytics geeks (and I mean that in a good way) will grow and grow, and as a result, the noise gets worse and worse.

Mass amounts of data are freely available to every organization. Different organizations have different data gathering techniques, and thus has different levels of data. Some of it is freely available, other is in house data collection.

Nice rant, but I disagree. Analytics is increasing in all verticals, not just sports, and there are real reasons why. From predictive analytics in call centers, to retail price optimization, to lowering infant mortality rate. Predictive analytics is a part of every thing now, and the hardware finally exists to do
