I am kinda surprised that this article doesn't mention that Dyson's idea was inspired by a passage in Olaf Stapledon's StarMarker, at least according to Wikipedia. Hopefully no one mentioned this in the comments as I don't wanna be redundant

That was Barnyard, although I am not eliminating the possibility that Home on the Range did that too.
