I had a problem in highschool when I changed my password to something longer than 14 digits. It worked fine with their web-based password change app, but when I tried to log into a computer, I had to talk to a teacher to get it reset. I reset it to what I had typed before but still had the same problem.

I read about this on Slashdot yesterday and thought it was quite interesting.

The reason they need another subdomain is that they need to host it on different IPs addresses, since HTTPS prevents filtering software from seeing the domain that is sent to the server. This way, filters can block the encrypted.google.com IPs, rather than the main google servers' IPs.

To anyone using Ubuntu (or any other OS that uses Nautilus for the web browser, which is most GNOME based Linux OSs):

I like the tabs above setup. It just seems like a more logical, hierarchal setup.

If that free 1-year domain registration sounds too good to be true, it is. You need to buy 12 months of web hosting. First 3 are free, but the rest are $4/month, and there is a $5 setup fee. That's about $41 for your "free" domain.

Been doing this for years with the google search box in firefox.

Don't use Wubi as a permanent installation!

Aww, man... You guys broke it.

This is an awesome idea.

Wow. That's pretty awesome.

Ubuntu is more secure than both.

@maltesh: Yeah I kind of got excited, because I was thinking a+bi... Disappointed to find out this is something I already knew.

This reminds me a little party trick I learned a while ago. You can take any cube root of any perfect cube under 1,000,000 (100^3) easily. First, you have to memorize the ten single digit cube roots.

(Note: Don't worry, Lifehacker will be prank-free.)

My Ubuntu system keeps itself up-to-date automatically.

I do this a lot. Except instead of flipping a coin, I look at the seconds on my digital watch. Depending on whether the seconds are odd or even, I make my decision, and if I'm disappointed by the choice, I change my mind.

@TehBeardMan: I do the same, but try to keep it down to 4-5 hours. Better for the heart if you stay moving, you know.
