I responded to Arundel with a pretty good description of my feelings towards Scorsese already but I can reiterate my point. I feel like a lot of audiences miss the point of his films and mistake his characters' own narcissism for the glorification of their ideals and the fact that his characters are often so relatable

I would say that yes, men still behave like this on a regular basis, and that Scorcese himself is not glorifying the behavior, his characters are. Look at Wall street. Oh, hell, look at The Wolf of Wall Street. Scorcese didn't direct that to glorify Jordan Belfort. The only difference is now the greed seeking

I feel like this statement ignores the underlying humanity Scorsese always manages to bring to even the most base of characters. Yeah, his films are often about characters competing for the things you've mentioned but the films are critiques of the glorification of these ideas and the people who would champion them.

Conservative Christians, mostly.

I keep on forgetting this is like, the thing around here because it's posted so early for the west coast and the only conversation I want to have at that time involves fucking off (respectfully, of course).

Ah yes, the best book I got too depressed with to finish.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who prefers Strawberry Jam to Feels or MPP. All three are excellent albums, but for me there is not a single song on Strawberry Jam that I skip, it just works so damn well as an album. I thought Centipede Hz. was great, it just had the bad luck of being preceded by three near-perfect

I have only heard brief parts of both albums, but that is a really excellent analogy.

I love how people are still trying to take Kanye sort of seriously and I'm just over here cracking up whenever he says anything. You're a gay fish, Kanye, let it happen.

While I'm usually irritable when it comes to children, this interview was actually cute. This show always manages to bring me back to the happiest parts of my childhood spent camping at Wallowa lake in the eastern part of Oregon, before the wildfires made the area much less habitable.

And the bedroom, the living room, the study, the kitchen….

Season 7 is just going to be an HBO crew hanging outside GRRM's bedroom and framing his trips to the bathroom with some ominous music. Occasionally, they'll bring out a picture of breasts.

You can change your name all you want but that won't keep me from my son. Did you even give him the letter I sent him? He needs to know, his doctors need to know! I need you to stop, Sarah. I miss the woman I knew. I want to relive that blessed day we spent together in that cabin in Reedsport back in 2010. Remember

While I share a bit of your disappointment, I would also note that this show is both about failure and defying expectations. Publick/Hammer both really like to fuck with their fanbase and often seem to take fan feedback and go the opposite way out of spite, which is equal parts entertaining and frustrating in my book.

Ah yes, I forgot, the AV Club lost all of its journalistic integrity when it trashed American Dad and started giving The Big Bang Theory 'A' reviews like a big kick in the nethers to its reader base.

Yes, but then I yelled at my mirror and it stopped trying to help me out.

The Expanse is kind of a slow-burner, but after watching the finale I can definitely say the build-up was worth it. It reminds me most of video games like Mass Effect and Dead Space, a comparison that will make more sense later. The stand out performer from the series is definitely Thomas Jane's weird-ass haircut. I

We went to highschool together Linda Dahl and I think you know who I am. I want to meet my son! You have stooped so low and all I want to do is help you! Please Linda, let me see my son! Stop the meth, stop the vicodin and become the wonderful "Doug" obsessed woman I once knew. I miss you baby, you're better than this.

Whatever fountain of youth people like Paul Rudd drink from, I would like to find it because he looks younger than me and I'm 26. Ah, goddamnit, why couldn't I be pretty and charismatic instead of weird looking and incoherently angry?

I'd have to look into "family resemblance categories" more to give you a more informed but from what I read it doesn't really appeal to me. I think I would need to see it used contextually to understand what you're getting at. Still, Bertrand Russell was a big part of it and I really respect Russell so it probably
