I did this intentionally in high school several times and never got called for swinging. I assumed it was because I rotated my body into the swing, I never broke my wrists.

I remember Paul Molitor getting a bunch of these — I heard it was attributed to bat speed. If you can swing later, the catcher is more likely to stick out his glove, thinking that you’re not going to swing.

If they didn’t want it to be so, they can easily make it so you have to go down the categories. I’ve never considered this to be bad form.
