They’ve said they’re making a superhero story. Complaining this is not like the original epic is like saying Thor should’ve had red hair and Loki was not his adopted brother but more like his adopted uncle. They’re just using the original mythology as an excuse for a CG-fest and don’t seem to be hiding that. Also, as

You can’t put the Fengshen Yanyi into one movie, what do you expect? A highly financed series maybe, or Avenger-like multiple movies, but one movie? That would have been even more off a hell.

A film showing people getting deified for rebelling against the current regime?

So it’s perfect for the Rifftrax treatment?

I don’t know if this movie is just bad, or this is a case of Chinese filmmakers deliberately bastardizing and simplifying their source material (down to the shooty-shooty-bang-bang) to make it more “acceptable” overseas. If it is the latter case, then it’s a lovely case of turning the tables.

That was a hell of an episode and most of the reason I could never be bothered with Brotherhood.

Linus is pissed.

Yeah, I figured at least one of them would say “because I am the author and I say so.” Which is my response when one of the friends I write with asks about a death. *grumbles and mutters something about needing to finish project*

That’s a hard sell... even with surrealist works the authors try to keep things real “enough” that the reader can form a connection to the story.

True. I should be clearer. By bland, or weak, or unrealistic, I do mean within the context of making a strong story, not in the context of the narrative style.

They have no need to apologize, but they will be sorry for it if they do the job badly.

What if they’re not writing a realist narrative? Realism is a creative choice, not a universal requirement, and must be justified, like any other choice. Nobody should feel bad for writing what best serves the story, whether that is realism, expressionism, surrealism, etc. If you’re crafting a surrealist work, your

Not that I should be surprised that I disagree with a post at io9 these days — or that I’ll likely find myself in the minority — but I liked Civil War. It was the first comic series I read cover-to-cover including many of the other books that included story arc off-shoots.

Don’t forget to resolve any upkeep effects.

Diatomaceous earth.

Miles Morales! For this scene if nothing else:

I had a khajiit mage who married her just for the humor of a woman with the title “The Lioness” being married to a cat person XD

Oh, it’s by no means universally bad, just something that’s not immediately clear for most new players.

The problem I had with Brotherhood is that you just can’t kick me in the stomach emotionally with that story twice.

Eh, I liked Eragon...when it was called A New Hope. Seriously, anybody who thinks TFA was a carbon copy on ANH needs to see Eragon - that movie was an almost scene by scene rip-off of ANH.
