Hmmm... Some serious dissent from a few comfortably decided commenters. I also disagree, but not entirely. The most important takeaway for me is... stop running on default. Whatever direction you are going, question it. Make decisions for yourself, based on comfort, convenience, cost—whatever. Just think it through.

The book has a neat idea, but it’s not written very well, nor is it all that intellectual. It read like a flatfooted YA novel to me.

The show is not even close to approaching the quality of Martin, they story they are telling is incoherent and so against the very tenets of what they are adapting it’s laughable.

I think it works much better for him to just say “Go on, do your duty,” if you think about who Stannis is - resolute a lawful-neutral character.

I agree with you. I don’t get fans’ sense of entitlement to making things with other people’s IP, just because it’s a tribute or out of love. It’s great that you like a thing...go make something inspired by it and start making money on your own ideas.

This old guy agrees. I’d done the same with a property of mine, converting it from Trek to an original premise, because I knew it was the only way I could sell it. You wanna create, great; but if the owners won’t let you do Trek, let your creative fly and make your own sci-fi universe.
