Just so you know, no 1st gen came with factory rear locker, there was no SR for the 1st gen. LS trim came with rear LSD, and some RS (like mine) also came with LSD. Easiest way to find out if it has LSD is to see the sticker on driver’s door, sticker on rear diff, or headlight squirters usually mean rear LSD.

I have a first gen (I do think it looks better, it’s my kinja pic) but yeah I do like me a second gen. Probably best of both worlds would be SR rear axle swap on Gen 1. Second gen Montero’s are in fact better than first gen. More advanced 4x4 system, internal hubs, SR’s have rear locker. What the hell does “traditional 4WD system” mean? You do know that a 2nd and 3rd gen have 2H-4H-4L-and open center diff 4WD.

Maybe you should talk to the Range Rover or Land Cruiser guys about that one.
