Yes I did see that, but going from 25th -> 5th from first lap when they are all still close together is a lot different than closing a 5 second gap from 6th place to win.

I could count how many times Marquez came from 5th to finish in 1st in a race on one hand. I couldn’t count the number of times Rossi has come from above 5th to finish 1st with 5 hands.

Like I said somewhere else, Marquez is a fast rider but not a fast racer. He only is good in the lead, he is not the racer that Rossi is, not by a long shot. Rossi was on Extra Hard rear, and Marquez was on Hard rear. Marquez had a softer compound which heated up faster and provided better grip for the first ~ 10 laps after that, the tire was degrading pretty rapidly. Rossi (and most of the field) optioned for the Extra Hard rear because this was a long race.
