Personal Finance, not economics (that sounds like the economy as a whole), should be taught in high school. It should include things like budgeting, filling out loan applications, filling out rental applications and how credit cards work. Contacting various utilities to get those setup/turned off etc.

Why would the financial industry want regular people to understand it? Why would state legislators want average citizens to understand basic economic principles? “Keep ‘em confused and stupid.”

Those things are true, and I love Pa for them, but it doesn’t change the fact that they fled rented accommodations in the night to avoid paying back-rent, that he put his children to work at very young ages, that he took material risks with his young children by moving them to the frontier, and that he participated in

How much more evidence is needed before robust financial education becomes part of the curriculum in every school in the nation? People need to understand money, or the whole country is fucked. It’s absolutely enraging that personal finance has never been an educational priority.

He was the worst wasn’t he? “Oh, sorry Ma, I’m taking you away from your loving and close-knit family in the woods to some god-forsaken place. I’ll never let you get comfortable; if a family moves nearby we are gone. So what if we may not be near any decent medical care. It’s not like one of our children will go blind

Do you think this time around, they’ll show Pa to be the loser he actually was?

The first question would be more tricky if it were more than $110, =$110 or less than $110.

The first and second are simple math. The third requires a little rudimentary investment knowledge I think. Any college graduate should be able to answer the first two.

Odd... I play a TON of video games and so far I regret anything that prevented me from playing more video games.

Add golf to that. If I spent less time playing golf I would have more time to not play golf.

People have worse hobbies or habits than video games. You play them because you have fun. If you find something that’s more enjoyable, do that, but don’t regret having fun. The only downside to me about playing video games is that it’s a completely inside activity, you do want to balance it with something you enjoy

Waiting! I’m always waiting for the exact right moment to pursue my dream job. First I should finish my degree, then I should get settled into my current job’s new office and my change of commute. I really should get in shape first, too. My house is falling apart and I need the money to fix it up—it would be

One of my favorite sentiments is “never light yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.” You can’t help or be there for anyone else if you can’t keep yourself whole and sane.

Well, if you happen to live in Flint, Michigan, then soda might be a healthy alternative to water.

I am impressed as hell! Not many people can read an article that out-and-out says, “The best scientific minds in the field are now saying that ‘Eat less, move more’ is bullshit and there’s so much we’re just now starting to understand about how the human body processes nutrients that upends all the conventional

Outside the U.S., I've seen kcal on the labels, inside the U.S. it's almost always called calories, but means kcal.

Cardio is boring as shit. If phones make it tolerable, yay for them.

Some people work long hours and prefer to workout with their spouses instead of hitting the gym on the way home from work. It’s not cheap, but if it means we get to spend time together working out in the comfort of our home, and we have the money to do so...why not?

Or, most people are like the author and have no experience with it, and are therefore intimidated by it. It seems at the gyms I've been to most people have their phones out to change a music track, which is hardly an offense.

Your PM literally just threatened Muslims who don’t learn English with deportation after roundly denouncing Trump — who currently runs nothing other than a campaign — for essentially the same sentiment.
