Awww, don’t worry. Your life isn’t ruined.
Awww, don’t worry. Your life isn’t ruined.
Wimpy white dudes also ruined my life. Like when my girlfriend left me, a wimpy white dude who can’t play the guitar, for a much better looking wimpy white guy who could play guitar.
I think every time this comes up people should go watch the Humans Need Not Apply video. Remember, you're talking about an industry that has a large amount of its work amount to unskilled repetitive labor. Labor that once it hits a certain price point can be replaced with automation.
He should notify the unemployment office too.
Shouldn't one get paid based on what the job is worth? I'm sorry but flipping burgers is not worth $15 an hour.
Uber always stops. Cabs...not so much -it is significantly more difficult for me to flag a cab than it is for my (white) friends (no matter how unkempt the happen to be). I’ve actually had multiple successes using Caucasian decoys: having a friend who has no intention of riding hail the cab for me. Ultimately, fuck…
They basically wipe their hands of responsibility for their drivers. (Which, that said, try reporting something to the NYC taxi commission. You get fucking nowhere.)
I have been using Uber almost exclusively for 2 years. I absolutely love it and don’t understand why people find it so easy to attack and belittle. Among it’s many conveniences, the best part of Uber is the transaction end: no tipping, no dealing with cash, no waiting on credit card processing. You just open the door,…
the great thing about uber is you can get a car whenever you need one, particularly if you’re in the middle of nowhere or it’s a time when there are few empty cabs. that being said, i refuse to take an uber by myself late at night unless someone is either tracking it on their app’s GPS or knows the driver’s license…
So let me get this right, the police, who had this incident report for what, 5 days, put in a subpena yesterday, and less than 24 hours later uber gave them this information? Ohhhh evilllllll uber!!! How dare they give the police subpenaed information in accordance with the law in 24 hours! Those bastards!
Mankind, collectively. I can substitute “they” for Cambodians and similarly disposed developing nation residents if you’d prefer without it really changing the meaning. I didn’t intend to remove agency from Cambodians on the ground but perhaps my wording came off that way.
It helps actual Cambodian people sleep at night because they are alive and can own beds when they could be otherwise, so yes, I will take some degree of solace in the insufficient but real incremental gains we have made.
Prior to 1960, almost every single Cambodian made less than that living wage. The fact that this is not as true any more is a monumental achievement. Prior to 1960, the average Cambodian didn’t have access to healthcare, largely because they were too poor. Now they do, and this is also a monumental achievement. As…
You are severely underrated how poor these countries were not too long ago. The average Cambodian is 10 times wealthier in inflation adjusted terms than they were fifty years ago. Fifty years ago, the average Cambodian died at 41 years of age. Now the average Cambodian lives to be 70.
Weird, China’s standard of living has increased greatly from industrializing vs poor agrarian culture.
I’ll give an example. Poor country A has tons of people, not enough food, and zero industry to speak of. Lots of people are at subsistence level or starving. A factory making clothes enters the region. People work at that factory. They are paid money which allows them to buy meager, but better than prior to the…
This isn’t surprising or particularly new. Once you open up free trade, poorer countries will go through the equivalent of what the U.S. went through in the early 1900s. The plus side is that as the level of capital increases in poor countries, usually life gets better (albeit, slowly).
Forgive my ignorance here, but none of those ops looked particularly black. Seems like they were running around in broad daylight loudly and obviously blowing things up.
I don't know. Music is so personal. I love just about all of her stuff. But I'm a weirdo. Does this float your boat?
We're having Chris do a Kotaku Asks in late April! You should come troll him.
