You’re not rambling at all. You pose a good question. For me, the only thing that changes my reaction is the nature of my relationship with the threatener. If it’s a complete stranger I will never meet, it doesn’t bother me at all. If I personally know the person, I’d probably be scared and hurt emotionally.
