Ancient Persians are neither Phoenician or Greek. Sure, they were Indo-European like the Greeks, Northern Indians, Armenians, etc (the Phoenicians weren’t, by the way; they were Semitic). But there was nothing Mediterranean about them, culturally or genetically.

I would like to suggest it might be useful to allow a group the right to self-identify, especially with a history thousands of years old.
