Yes. We DO need this type of writing. I agree with you! It helps those that want it. It does open eyes. Just like Kaep opened a lot of eyes. Same type of thing. Different topic.

You put words to a feeling I haven’t been able to pinpoint. I keep seeing men say “don’t trust allies, not even me” and you’re spot on - they’re performing in some bizarre way that allows them to not be accountable and not give up any power. Thank you so much for this comment.
I agree there. It’s not like Damon’s deflecting. No, he’s owning it, and we need to as well. Because the first step towards meaningful action is to admit we are agents of patriarchy and, rather than engage in performative feminism, we need to actively create feminists spaces and call out fellow men at any given time…
Nah, that’s like the people who say “I’m not good at” returning people’s calls, emails or texts. Bullshit. As long as you are talking about what you are or are not, you are not doing. You’re stalling with the shame show. Its moral masturbation
Wait, I think I get it. Calling yourself trash is how men deal with the fact that they actually like patriarchy and misogyny because it benefits them. So they show shame and that covers up for the fact that they still want dominance. If you say “I’m trash” and do a little performative feminism, you can avoid changing…
I too fell into this trap for awhile, I feel many of us have. Even as a person who didn’t really rock with whytes like that, I still struggled with this idea of being one of the “good ones.”
I think a time is coming where we have to create a penalty for White people who want to say nigger.
“Respectability politics” messed a lot of us up.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I went through this myself around the time of Trayvon Martin, and it was a slow dawning. The 2016 election and fallout made me cut one of my good friends who made similar remarks out of my life after he acted out.
Fuck that guy and thank you for writing about this.
I like your honesty, it refreshing because so many of us don’t like to admit that we fell for that “good one” bullshit. Well said sir. or Madame (I didn’t see any self identifying pronouns in your post and I’m not gonna disrespect).
Right? You can do drag and still be a transphobe or a misogynist. You can be a Lesbian and a TERF. Being any iteration of LBGT+ does not mean you can say racist shit, and it’s a witty barb, or worse exclude POC and not be a bigot.
As someone who has spent most of his life being considered “one of the good ones”, white people constantly insisting you are in some way better than other black folks starts to fuck with your head. It’s why Stacy Dash and Jason Whitlock are who they are. That shit can brainwash you.
For a long time Don played that “hurt and educated” black gay male stereotype very well. He got too comfortable inside his on personal delusion. But this Trump thing really shook the shit out of him. It’s made most of us better for it.
I had written about this story about a month ago in a long Twitter thread where I named serial predators like Bryan Singer, Michael Bay, Terry Richardson, etc. Poor Gemmel, it seems like once again the onus has been put on Moore’s family to keep the investigation open and find justice for the murder of their son. It’s…
apparently facebook keeps scrubbing links to this story from this site and from the site of the woman who first reported it.
Omg how is this the first time I’ve ever heard this story?
Wtf is wrong with people? Especially men, with this serial killing and mass murdering? People are crazy.
Actions over words.
