This is a very important point. If you don’t want to go with the NHS, there’s nothing stopping you from going private. IIRC my recent quote (for a 42-year old man) was £70 per month. Good luck getting anything close to that in the the US.

As a fellow Brit, friends in the US have been surprised when I’ve explained our healthcare system to them. One of the biggest surprises being that orthodontists are free for children, so they don’t have to pay thousands for braces.

All these terrible policemen just ruin it for the seven or eight good ones.
