Regardless of the outcome of the trial, I am already sick of the lazy headline and copy writers finding a way to link the verdict of “America’s Father” to Father’s Day.

Cosby answer a series of yes and no questions to establish that his counsel was still acting with his consent.....

The fact that they’re asking to hear the definition of reasonable doubt kind of suggests to me that somebody is being obstinate beyond the confines of what is reasonable. Like they’re saying to him (probably him, anyway) that there’s a difference between lacking 100 percent certainty and having a reasonable doubt.

Honestly, I think it means there are one or two asshole holdouts who are making up nonsense scenarios in which consent could be obtained from a woman who was drugged (“well, before he drugged her she likely would have had sex with him because she was in his room!”). IME on a jury there is always some asshole who

Just getting a quick comment in before the mass commenting on this one; my sister served as juror in a big city rape case a decade ago.

A rare look inside the jury deliberations:

The anti-choicers have figured out that they really don’t need to win in court, as long as they can make it impossible to actually run an abortion clinic. It’s fucking infuriating.

I don’t know if this helps at all, but the fact that they’re still deliberating means someone in that jury room is fighting very hard for justice. It’s probably been obvious since the first day of deliberations that they’ve got one person unwilling to convict under any circumstances and somebody had to have stepped up

Exactly. My money is that the holdout(s) are doing it more out of spite or politics than the actual merits of the case. We’ve seen similar situations in police shootings- it’s about supporting the police against brown people, not what actually happened.

have asked the judge for the definition of reasonable doubt.

Thank you for sharing your story again and again, Hachi. I’m sorry you went through that and that you didn’t feel safe or supported enough to come forward. This is exactly what a lot of people need to know when they ask “why didnt’ she/he/they come forward”. Sometimes it feels like shouting into a void but one can

Most likely.

As my grandmother use to say “Oy Vey...”

It’s very upsetting. I shared this on the Root before but I am a sexual assault survivor and this feels like ten hundred million slaps in my face. I never moved forward because I didn’t think anyone would believe me and this is exactly why I’m glad I didn’t. No amount of truth or evidence is enough. I just keep hoping

My faith in the jury system cratered during the Bundy trial. There’s no way a random sample of 12 Americans is not going to end up with at least 1 or more stubborn idiots who are going to cast their ballot based on what color the defendant’s tie was or how attractive they find the prosecuting attorney, let along

So they’ve got at least one hold out who refuses to convict unless Cosby openly admits to the crime and they’re trying to get that person to at least agree he’s guilty of the drug charge.

It’s looking really grim.

Oh my god I have absolutely no faith in people.

Can somebody just tell them that it means it’s ‘reasonable’ to ‘doubt’ that ANYbody could let him get away with this?
