I love pro/rel but have a hard time caring about any of the European leagues either with no salary cap. You care about a team and player? Too bad, because if he’s not on one of 6 teams in 4 countries, he will be soon.

The issue with the US is that it had to “erect” a top league without building up. MLS had to be constructed and was set up as a real aspirational league right away. The 2nd tier hasn’t caught up and the gap is too huge for pro/rel to really work. Why throw away teams with decent infrastructure and investment for teams

Point two is overlooked far too much. Yes, relegation and promotion would benefit teams like Cinci and the other lower level teams drawing in huge crowds. No one doubts they’d benefit. Most of the original teams of MLS are still struggling with attendance, popularity, and visibility into their own cities. Relegating a

Based on these comments, can “’Tics” become an official thing here, please. And maybe give the byline to Hamno every time.

Umpires are wrong on about 1 out of every 3 close pitches and about 15% of all ‘called’ pitches... It’s a hard job, which is why robots should do it.

I largely agree with you, but what’s the error rate for the machines? The umps do a really good job, and are very rarely this wrong, but if you can use a machine to be 100% accurate and 100% consistent then it’s just stupid to keep on putting guys out there who will (however rarely) cost a team a game because of an

The umpire doesn’t make calls on pitches that get swung on, do that “4 mistakes out of 250” stat isn’t accurate. I’m not going to actually try to figure it out because it’s too much work, I just know it’s wrong though.

I guarantee the thought process was something along the lines of “Who the hell does this god damn (or gosh darn, depending on where said umpire was raised) rook think he is taking a 3-2 pitch with the game on the line. Swing the bat boy!”

I don’t think any sane person wants replay for balls and strikes. But the technology to have a robot instantaneously call balls and strikes exists right now and they won’t even consider it.

It’s pretty crazy that over the course of the whole game the ump made, what, about 4 bad calls? Then he saved up one egregious one for when the pressure was on. Guess you gotta get those umpires with the clutch gene

I don’t understand why MLB doesn’t just have a computer call balls and strikes. It’s so stupid that this technology exists and they don’t use it.

And scouting. Apparently, the Royals picked up that on balls down the RF line, Bautista would always whirl and heave to second.
