Italian firm? My first reaction was "this must be one of those Chinese knockoffs". Usually the Italians have great design taste, but this is just terrible.
Correct. That usually is the result of unclean/uneven surfaces and or bondo work. It's just the same in 3d work, when you apply a material and the reflections will be uneven where there is bad geometry. The surfaces don't catch light the same way, where there are surface breaks and non continuity.
