205 GTi was beam rear and the French have continued the tradition into their modern hot hatches. I had the successor 306 GTi6 that also had passive rear-steer, and although it kept you on your toes at times, was incredibly intuitive (and fun) to push into oversteer when you wanted it. Was a big eye opener to me coming

Nah. Look at rally in Europe. There is still an abundance of Peugeot 205 GTi’s and similar, small, light FWD and very mechanically simple/analog cars - because that type of car can be thrown around like no-ones business.

Small, lift off oversteer prone FWD’s are about as fun as it gets. The thing that makes *any* car fun is corner adjustability by throttle input. 90% FWD’s won’t to do this well (even some of the “sportier” ones), and I reckon the US has been starved somewhat of these good ones (especially those made by the French -

Auto only for its sports car and already planning an SUV. What a waste of potential.

Opinion on a FWD hot hatch from Chris Harris, a guy who’s made a living drifting supercars.

I reckon the closest would be the outgoing Megane RS. Same serious-business track focused FWD pseudo-coupe, with equal giant-killing ability.

Yep it’s a “fact” that is often repeated without veracity.

It looks exactly like they ruined a Megane RS.

Ha I saw this article and had a hazy memory of the motor being for sale and your mid engine car plans on the old svx forum. Awesome to see you actually bought it.

People forget the IDX was to be exclusively CVT - nice styling wise but otherwise no great loss.

The Fiesta ST is the Honda Accord of hot hatches.

Looks great! Dig the faux tape crosses on the headlights.
Some consolation now RenaultSport is turning toward mainstream mediocrity.
