Ah yes, you are correct, I was thinking of total drag where as you were referring to drag coefficient. Downforce doesn't always produce front end lift though. That's only if you put a huge spoiler in the rear, but if you put a front splitter and or rear diffuser on it (like the Ford GT has), it will provided downforce…

The gap between the bumper cab is due to how the truck is assembled and allows them to make over 2000 every day. Basically the bumper is bolted to the frame long before the cab is brought down onto the assembled frame. This would make more sense if the Passat actually competed with the Charger. The Passat is mid-sized and competes with the Avenger.

The 1st and 2nd generation Taurus SHOs had them as well. They are a nice feature on my '95. They were only activated with the turn signal and the headlamps have to be on.
