Yea, starting with a wagon body and putting the SHO drivetrain in it, might be the better route since you'll get that flat load floor and more truck like vertical taillamps.

That car was so beautiful at the NAIAS. When I came to the Mercedes booth, everything else paled in comparison to it. It makes the new SL look even more hideous. and having a complete aluminum body, without any seams except for the hood, trunk and belt line and up gullwing doors is just gorgeous.
