...and I was all stoked for a new Isabella Coupe...

Then you should stay home, because bad drivers can ruin your day or life even if you’re in a car.

I don’t think there’s any reason to be concerned... no parent’s pulling those things fast enough to flip them over anyway.

Doesn’t matter if they saved them or not, or who really built the K70, or who really built the 50/Polo. The lineage of VAG is so convoluted it’s hardly even worth delving into. The point, though, is that VW’s and Audis of just a few years ago were very, very similar.

It’s in Europe; it’s probably a stick. :)

I have personally towed 200+lbs of cargo on a converted InStep kiddie trailer from K-Mart, so your argument is invalid.

Sounds like you might want to make a license plate adapter.

I’ll bet the Miura wasn’t easy to find parts for in the early 80’s, so we probably shouldn’t include “parts availability” in this comparison. :)

I don’t even know what you’re getting at anymore. There are hundreds of thousands of Audis driving around which are not built on that specific platform (The A4 used the VW B-platform for over a decade), and I’m sure a few of them have been posted to Instagram by now.

There are a lot. Many are FWD, but that doesn’t mean they’re bad. Check out Toyota AE92 and FX16, Geo Storm GSi (130hp), Dodge Colt GT Turbo, perhaps. Suzuki Swift Twin Cam, VW GTI Mk1 or Mk2 (still affordable), Ford Fairmont (Fox body sleeper). I don’t know if Saturn Twin Cam Coupes are any good, but it might be

Nah, just look for fun stuff that no one wants. You don’t have to own a Lamborghini to have a fun and beautiful car.

You do realize that cars from the recent past still exist, right? VW and Audi shared the B platform (Passat/80/90/4000/Coupe/Quattro/A4/S4/RS4) from 1972 until 2008. They also have shared the A platform (Golf/A3/TT/Q3) from 1996 through the present day.The current Audi A1 shares its platform with the VW Polo.

But $500 is a lot! Next time I’ll just buy a car with the $1500 AWD option, and still slide off the road!

Jay Leno also got his first Miura for free or nearly free back in the day, when they were barely worth scrap value.

He should buy a CRX HF or Civic VX/HX because even though it’ll be slow, it’ll be a fun chassis with 40-50mpg.

The B platform has been shared between VW and Audi since the 70’s... and although they may not share everything currently, the legacy is still alive in second and third-hand cars which are owned by Jalops.

How are they used?

They don’t bash VAG on Jalopnik; they bash Audi. Because Audis were and are basically expensive Volkswagens using the same chassis and engines and everything. Volkswagen is made fun of because of their history of dubious reliability, and coming from someone who used to be involved in the VW community, it’s true. You

Presumably, reporters could quit jumping on it, and just ignore it. That way the NFL wouldn’t get extra publicity for it, would realize it costs a lot to stage, and would then discontinue the practice. Or something like that. I don’t watch football so I don’t know how this usually goes down.
