It should be really obvious that the way the OS's work with app updates is entirely different. Apple ONLY updates it's system apps with an OS update. Google pushes many things as separate apps, and my 4 year old Desire could install all the new versions of the apps, while my 4 year old ipod touch hasn't gotten
