With all that engineering, why did those old Fords feel so poor with plastics, etc? Did the bean counters then take all the engineering and cancel it in favour of cheap cost to build?

Every once in a while, when you come across a detail like this that is unseen, cheaper to make if deleted, and well implemented, it just makes me smile. Also I know I’m not working on a GM product.
Unfortunately this is true. What is thought of as attention grabbing and edgy is in some cases really just crass. Plus despite what millennials think, it just isn’t classy.
