Hahaha.

OH. MY. GOD. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SITE? They said that SEXUALLY ACTIVE women not using birth control should refrain from drinking. Which means that the message by and large directs itself towards women who are drinking while more or less consciously heading into pregnancy. Not, for example, at women intent on going

So the advice is, if you're having sex and you don't want an FAS baby you should either a) not drink or b) use birth control. OK, so this is really just if you're having sex and don't want a baby, use birth control. If you're all like: sure, baby! then you should make sure the potential baby is healthy

I get why the CDC is recommending this: if they said hey, a couple glasses the weekend you got knocked isn’t really a big deal some moron out there is going to take it as an excuse to stay constantly trashed, plus most people aren’t medical professionals who really understand risk/benefit analysis. Plus, not drinking

I move we stop calling them whore pills and start calling them drunk pills. I need BC so I can have my nightcap, thankyouverymuch.

“suggests the same old idea that all women are either future, current, past or broken incubators, and that is their body’s primary use.”

The key point to their message could be unisex, if you are sexually active hetero adult, but not wanting or prepared for children, you should be using birth control. If you choose not to, you are playing with matches near gasoline; writing checks you cant cash; shitting the bed ect.

🍹 Fellow lesbians, asexuals, trans women, intersexed women, and all who are infertile or just not interested in penis... drink up! 🍻 The time to drunkenly rise up is upon us! 🍸 I dream of a day when women will be judged not by the contents of our genitals, but by the colour of our booze-flushed cheeks! 🍷

Wow, the CDC hit a nerve. If for no other reason, I’m glad they said what they did. There job is not to be “realistic”, it’s to warn people of the risks, treat them like adults, and let them make up their own minds.

So here’s how I feel: Alcohol abuse is a huge problem in this country. I have worked with student with FAS and it is not to be taken lightly. This CDC recommendation is only troublesome to me in that they are pigeonholing a serious national issue to the realm of government agencies setting more unrealistic

You’re really digging for a reason to be outraged here. Considering all the stats above, it’s a perfectly reasonable recommendation. If you look at all the stats regarding alcohol, there are numerous good reasons for people (and women in particular) to avoid it entirely. It’s a poison.

This seems like a misreading of the advice. It doesn’t say to stop drinking just because you’re of childbearing age; it specifies that you’re sexually active but not using birth control. If you’re young and regularly having sex without a birth control method, you’re very likely to get pregnant. That’s a much smaller

Well any unplanned fetus growing inside of me is going to be aborted anyway, so I’ll just drink up.

I feel this advice is solid.

This is a naïve and childish response,

I think it’s a stretch to act like the CDC thinks of women only as potential incubators. It’s good idea to at least put some info out there to suggest that you, if you can, try to watch your shit. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is a problem and statistically, the amount of women who drink while pregnant is very high.

Many of my friends are trying to get pregnant; most are social drinkers who don’t cut out or cut down on drinking until they find out they are pregnant, but there is evidence that drinking in early pregnancy can affect fetal development. A 2015 report out of a Finnish university found that drinking alcohol in the very

I’ve been doing the (often laughed at) thermometer and condom thing for the past five years. Even if an accident ever would happen, I’d know it after two weeks. So no “SURPRISE, Bitch!” babies for me, thanks. I’ll keep drinking my rosé over here.

Why quit drinking? There’s always abortion. I’m not trying to be cute or sarcastic. When there’s an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy, there’s always abortion.

From my mom’s tee-totaling southern Baptist doctor in the ‘80s: FAS results when a woman is drinking so much that she isn’t getting proper nutrition otherwise.
