Actually suspension of disbelief doesn't mean you will accept every facet of a show or book simply because it is fiction. It means what you are willing to accept and what may not be plausible within an established narrative.

NBC has a terrible record with sci-fi shows. Journeyman, Awake... the usual pattern is 13 episodes and then cancelled.

I think watching the show makes it pretty clear there is not a singular vision. And Falling Skies has had a different show runner for both its seasons.
