I'm not sure why, but in my mind this would be SO much cooler if they put relay satellites in orbit around other planets too. Sure it's stupid for transmitting from mars, but the idea of a network of relay satellites scattered across the solar system just seems so science-fiction-y awesome that I have to say something.
