I'd even say if L Ron had stopped after the humans beat the "bad guys", it would have ended as a good book. IMO, it's only afterward the truly bad parts of the book start entering in.

That's the basic concept behind "warp fields"- it warps the space around the craft and moves it forward, like squeezing a watermelon seed to make it shoot across the room.

I also maintain the movie wasn't all that bad. I once heard it described as "the worst sci-fi movie ever made".

You're lucky. Someone I used to work with told me they called the number on one of those late-night commercials offering a free copy of Dianetics, and now they get tons (almost literally) of junk mail from them every week.

I've often felt the first half (or so) of Battlefield Earth was pretty good. It's only after they've succeeded in beating the "bad guys" that the book goes off the rails.

I'm actually amazed some people ccan look at the deal he cut with DC on Watchman, and not be on Moore's side.
Yep. Whole lot of people have been biting Tolkien's style. Like, close to literally every fucking fantasy world that exists.
She has the vapors! Get the smelling salts!
Another point- Moore's "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" isn't trying to pass itself off as a sequel to any of these stories, or as "official" anything. He's simply created a world in which all these ficticious things are real… and that in itself makes it an original and unique thing.
This is a big disingenuous though. Moore was outright told he'd have the rights after a year.
