Yeah, the show really isn't afraid to genre-hop or even just get into some really ridiculous stuff. It's kinda the opposite of pretentious, and ultimately it ended up being really entertaining. (also, it's a show that I don't think could ever be reproduced in America, even if Howard Overman's involved)

Well, pretty much all the new companions have appeared once as "not themselves" first. Clara is just the first one to be announced as a companion before an appearance like that.

Probably not, since the less-silly options of explaining Clara's existence would probably involve them having the same personality. My bet right now is that the real Oswin is still a tech wizard, but hacked a Dalek to do a personality transfer for some sort of escape plan. At least to me, it sounds a little less
