Dude, the GAU-8 is the primary weapon used on the A-10. Having a spent a year in Afghanistan I can tell you from direct and highly personal experience that whenever we call for CAS and an A-10 responds, it responds with the gun.
I really enjoyed these books and I crushed this one in about 2 days...I feel like I should go back re-read them all, including the novellas.
