It is totally not illegal to ride horses down the street in my hometown of New York City, as long as you don't do it after dusk.

Really? I think Streep is one of the greatest actors alive (or not alive), and she usually pulls out the accent flawlessly, but she's been panned for at least a couple of them.

You suggested that we are holding on to Guam against their will and making them pay taxes. What other territories do is not really relevant.

What?? Residents of Guam pay no US income tax, but still receive a huge transfer payment from the US that more than covers their expenditures. The US military is the second largest sector of the economy.

Hmmm apparently DeMaster had papers in 1988, 1995, and 2013 tracking orca survival rates; the 1988 paper found orca in captivity had higher mortality, but the 1995 paper found that the mortality rates had converged. I can’t find anything from 2013, though it might be unpublished data compiled for his NOAA job.

I think animal rights groups may use different datasets; if you go back far enough you’ll incorporate time periods when veterinary medicine and holding technology wasn’t as good as it is now.

If the parents can’t support the children without the subsidies, there’s always CPS and foster care. You don’t deserve to have your bad acts subsidized by the government.

“it’ll just make things worse for them”

I vote for the lesser of two evils because any candidate who shared my views would be unelectable. My philosophy is, vote for the candidate who will cause the least permanent damage for a saner far-future civilization to deal with. I am not joking.

It looks like a sign you’d find in a Swedish train station.

Clinton-Arquette 2016!!!

Less trillion dollar wars started?

It definitely seems to fill a lot of different collegiate roles. I didn’t go to CCNY but I guess physically Hudson isn’t THAT far from it, but the student body portrayed definitely was a lot richer, whiter, and suburban than you’d find in any of the CUNYs. The funny thing is L&O had no problem mentioning real-life NYC

As a CUNY grad, I wish we had a campus like Hudson...I always thought it was a stand-in for Columbia.

I think requiring publicly elected legislators to attend religious observances would not be a good thing...

“So you don’t see the hypocrisy of a government body that mouths about their religious freedoms being trampled on, then tramples on another religion?”

Now I’m really curious.

The block seating idea makes sense I guess, but segregated seating does not. Or at least it would not fly (pun seriously not intended) once that plane entered the US.

“Failing that, maybe verbally abusive people throwing adult tantrums in the aisles should be removed from the plane?”

“This is what $29 gets you at the grocery store—what families on SNAP (i.e. food stamps)“
