I think you are seeing people with moderate-to-severe obsessive-compulsive disorder reacting emotionally to your description and lashing out at you. Nothing you described necessarily is a health hazard; dirty dishes everywhere aren’t unless they’re there for a long time.

I went to Hollywood for the first time this year and was shocked how seedy and cramped it was, even the supposedly ultrawealthy areas and neighborhoods. Not really relevant to this story, but felt like sharing.
