The multiverse certainly opens up the possibility (side-stepping the issue of betraying the character’s canon... or whatever...), but I don’t know why they should feel obligated to do it either... and I’m not sure why they should be expected to justify that to anyone.

This is a curiously ambitious plan for a show that always felt so wonderfully laid back even as it probed the mysteries of the universe and consistently confounded expectations. Damned if I wouldn’t love to see it, though.
