I don’t agree with lists like that. Why only consume art that conforms with your own politics and viewpoints? How boring. Of course, there are more books in the world than any one person could ever read, so you’re going to miss some authors regardless of what you do, but I just don’t understand the principle of it.

I don’t know what rusholmeruffian does for a living, but for professional writing, conciseness and clarity is generally preferred over all else. All that advice means is to write shorter, clearer sentences, which wouldn’t be bad advice even if you prefer Faulkner.
