I would buy a RAV4 prime in a heartbeat, but the towing capacity limit on them makes it a no-go for my needs. It’s certainly possible to have high utility in a hybrid and I think Toyota is about to show us that in the new Tundra and the trucks and suvs that follow, but its not common now.

They don’t make economic sense for one.  The cost of making a diesel in this size class is high as they are required to meet the same emissions standards as gasoline power.  The complexity and pressure also means expensive parts and service.  The difference between gas and diesel mileage isn’t anywhere close to high

I dont know why the hybrid options are not more popular either i guess they fool themselves into thinking that with the larger up front cost they will never “break even.”also they probably think the hybrid is the slower uption. But the up charge is getting less and less every year and more and more the hybrid option

Because hybrid systems are less up front cost than a diesel engine and provide a much bigger benefit over the lifetime of the vehicle. Diesel engines are enormously expensive and have tons more maintenance costs.  If your going to build an eco focused vehicle it is going to be hybrid or electric or a phev.   

I know, right? If you aren’t buying it for the driving experience (which almost nobody is) a hybrid should be the default option at this point. The technology has existed for long enough, it should be the standard.
