WHY has there been no Good/Bad/Ugly for the SAG Awards??? I have been waiting to tell everyone that I gasped when I saw Lupita Nyong'o on the red carpet because she looked ..... BEYOND WORDS!

Yoga is amazing when done right, but I would caution against using online tutorials if you've never done it before. You can hurt yourself if you aren't holding poses correctly, and it can be difficult to tell what's right for yourself if you aren't familiar with them. I would assume that downtown Denver would have

I have the same problem, and physical therapy did help me when I took it. The exercises are designed to strengthen the muscles around the knee, so that your knee is not taking so much of the brunt of the impact of walking/stepping/etc. Low impact, non-jumping and non-lunging exercises will be your friend.

I am here to second swimming. I integrate it every summer, because I hate swimming in indoor pools, and not only is it a great workout but it helps increase my cardiovascular endurance. Once summer hits, I usually add biking, hiking and swimming to my routine and it really makes my jogging on the treadmill a whole

Hi there! The only thing I can really help with is food ideas. I tend to stick to low-carb, low-sugar meals.

Water aerobics could be good exercise that won't strain your knee. Good luck!

Definitely keep up your protein. Low carb and adequate protein works for me- I lost 50 lbs that way. I recommend that you google "Lower body exercise" + the exact knee injury you have. I found so many sports medicine journal articles about what strength training exercises I should or should not do specific to my

Have you considered going to a orthopedic surgeon? I had something a lot like this. Not to scare you, I had to have surgery to correct it because pt just wasn't fixing it. I know putting off doctors appointments is super easy but when it comes to knees you don't wanna mess with them because once they're done, you're

I most likely have some early onset arthritis as well- my Physical Therapist told me the treatment is pretty much the same for that (still strengthening hips/quads), it's just that the progress will be slower so you have to pace yourself more. Seriously, you know it's bad when your PT is horrified by the crunching

fitnessblender.com : a website that offers FREE work-outs online. All different kinds, low-impact, cardio, weightlifting. I can't plug it enough, it's amazing!

There a doctor on NPR the other day talking about his book The Exercise Cure. Basically, he said that injuries need to have the little muscles around them strengthened so they stop bearing weight. Apparently, the body naturally compensates for the injury so they make those muscles weaken and the injury is often more

Until your knee is sorted out you should probably stick to swimming.

Anything low impact is your best bet. Strength/weight training is a good option as is anything water based.

Thanks! Ya know, I always hear about the wonders of yoga but haven't ever tried it. I think YouTube has quite a few tutorials. I guess I should at least give it a shot!

Thanks for your reply! I definitely want/need to increase my protein intake. It's going to be a challenge, but I'm planning on setting alarms on my phone as reminders for every 4ish hours. It's interesting that cycling doesn't hurt your knee. Maybe because I'm usually going uphill, but biking really bothers mine.

I've found that swimming is wonderful for us folks with crappy load bearing joints.

My bum knee kept me from exercising for a long time. I don't know if physical therapy is an option for you, but it might be well worth it in the long run (no pun intended). I went for about 3 months and it worked wonders for my knee, but you do have to really do all the exercises they give you religiously. If PT is

I am always so surprised at how gentle, low-impact yet effective yoga is. I like power vinyasa the best (and it is a real asskicker of a workout) but it might not be good for you with knee trouble. But the gentler hatha yoga is still great for toning and tightening everything up. I wish you all the luck!

Hey AmellaD. It's important to keep your protein up if you are cutting calories, as protein helps build muscle and you want muscle in the long term. I use an online food diary as I am in a similar situation (torn tendons in shoulder and collarbone, hernia surgery and going unvegan have caused weight gain). When I
