Performance optimization is the absolute last step after all content has been added & debugged. It is this way with all early access games. If you want polished performance out of the box, wait for 1.0.

I didn’t think a Smart could get more hideous. Now I have lost all aspiration to continue thinking things about stuff.

It’s probably got more to do with the quality of the line than the type. Or, also possible, you got stuff that wasn’t rated for fuel. Non-fuel rated line will rot out quick when you’re pumping gas through it.
